NEWS

A new series of prints will be available in the Sacred Images Gallery in late June of 2010! Please come back to see what’s new!

Currently I am working on illustrations for a translation of the Bhagavad Gita with Sanskrit scholar and author Amla Sanghvi. More information regarding the publishing of this book will appear in this section later in 2010.

New work in progress also includes the five Buddhist Taras, painted in egg tempra on wooden panels in icon-style, a series of yantra representing the nine planets, and a series of small yantra on calfskin vellum, this series will be housed between two plates of glass and set in a stand to allow for display/use or tabletop. My offering of yantra contribute in bringing personal balance based on your individual Vedic Astrologic makeup. For more information on Vedic Astrology, please visit the Northwest Institute of Vedic Sciences.

I recently finished working on a project for Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. My contributions to the new Spes Unica academic building included an installation piece in the entry, a series of crosses designed for a cross placed outside the entry of each classroom, a large stained glass window and leaded glass door in the Reflection/Meditation room, and a series of icon-style panels to represent the Great Religions of the World. Photos of this project can be seen on the Sacred Images Collection page.

As a founding member and board member of a new, collaborative arts organization in Idaho’s Treasure Valley, I invite you to take a moment to visit the Treasure Valley Artist’s Alliance at www.treasurevalleyartistsalliance.org and join us for events! Please consider ways in which you can support the visual arts in your own area.

Feng Shui

Fung Shui (which translates in Chinese as “wind-water”) is the Asian art of placement. Based on the specific prescriptive use of energetics attributed to five elements of nature (and the objects created from these elements), within this discipline lie the possibilities of changing or enhancing conditions in the lives of people, the structures in which they live and work and the land on which these structures have been constructed.

Yantra

A Yantra is a geometric composition that reveals a particular energy configuration whose power increases in exact proportion to the abstraction and precision of the diagram. Used together with mantra, or seed sound syllables, each Yantra displays the patterns of force heard in the mantra.

Sacred Images Publishing
Pink ButterflySacred Images is a unique collection of original fine art, limited edition (signed and numbered) archival prints, and special order reproductions on a variety of materials. The images that make up this collection are designed to provide soothing and beautiful imagery that is rooted in the healing traditions of a variety of ancient global cultures. Each original hand-painted image has been thoroughly researched. Meticulous attention has been paid to understanding and maintaining the traditions of the individual cultures represented in the art.

The original paintings are rendered in exquisite detail using watercolor, gouache, metal leaf, pen and ink and may be inlaid with precious and semi-precious gems. The prints, printed on acid-free, archival fine art papers and using inks color-rated for 200+ years in optimum conditions, maintain this same attention to color and detail.

The resultant images give modern expression to the archetypal symbols from many cultures, bringing their timeless healing power to bear on contemporary life.

Sarasvati Yantra Workshop

A two-day, weekend workshop to create a personal yantra, and learn the appropriate mantra and use. Taught in the beautiful Wood River Valley, Hailey, Idaho in August of 2010.

Yantra springs from a Tantric Vedic tradition as a tool in gaining transcendence in consciousness. Used traditionally with assigned sound (mantra), yantra is the geometrically prescribed visual representation of Divinity. These divine aspects are assigned form, color, number, sounds and direction. The combination of yantra and mantra can be used as a practice to enhance specific aspects in one's personal life.

In this workshop we will focus on the enhancement of the individual experience of beauty in the arts through the creation of a Sarasvati yantra. Traditionally the Vedic goddess Sarasvati represents visual arts, music/sound. A brief history of Sarasvati will be covered, and method of construction of yantra explained. The workshop then focuses on the individual creation of the yantra, and use in actual practice, including proper Sanskrit pronunciation of a Sarasvati mantra.

Each workshop participant will leave with a beautiful self-created, matted 11x14 yantra and the understanding of how to use it as a prescribed propitiation in your own practice. All materials included in this workshop.
