"I think she’s a genius. I think she’s profound. Her intellectual grasp is as strong as her aesthetic sense, which are both as powerful as her artistic talent – and they are all equal to her humanity and emotional force." Helen Knode, Carmel Valley, CA
"Penny is an amazing healer. She listens to you and inquires until she feels that she understands what you want and need .... Many years ago I placed my intention in becoming a compassionate human being, and the White Tara that Penny created brings it into my home, my psyche and heart." Kathryn Payne, Vashon Island, WA
Currently PennyLea is working on a project for Saint Mary's College, Notre Dame Indiana. Her contribution to the new Spes Unica academic building presently under construction on the campus, will include numerous installation areas of painting, along with the design of a stained glass door and window in the Reflection/Meditation Room within the Spes Unica building. This project will be complete late fall of 2008.
In early 2009 I will be adding prints of all 64 hexagrams of the I-Ching, along with the eight trigrams that make up the Bagua.
I invite you to return to this site regularly, as there will be the opportunity to order prints of specific numeric yantra to contribute in bringing personal balance to your personal Vedic Astrological makeup. PennyLea Mackie, a painter and designer for over thirty years,
has studied extensively the art, mythology and use of ancient
symbols from living masters and classic texts. For more than three
decades she has immersed herself in on-going studies of Asian
culture, and the visual/spiritual healing traditions of global
indigenous cultures. The vision PennyLea holds for her art is to
create images that enliven the experience of personal consciousness
in the viewer.
I have long been fascinated with viewing life through the lenses of pattern and energy. The resultant paintings aim to offer the individual an experience of the energetics of their own consciousness. Each painting structurally possesses the possibility of creating a coherent field of thought and subsequent action not only in the viewer, but also energetic coherence in the rooms or buildings in which they are placed. Most indigenous cultures have long held an understanding of the unseen energetics underlying all aspects of daily life, including the visual arts. Following prescribed combinations of shape, color, number and corresponding elements of nature, I have stayed true to the traditions from which these images have developed, while bringing them in to a contemporary context. Each image is designed to hold a particular energetic that offers the viewer a visual entry to an equivalent interior space.
PennyLea has shown her work internationally, being the first American to be invited to participate in the prestigious Art in Action exhibition held annually in the UK. Her work hangs in numerous public and private collections, in Temples, and has been incorporated into large-scale public architecture.
PennyLea is available for private
commissions of Icon. Her Icon work is done in traditional
materials using egg tempera on wood panels and highlighted with
pure gold leaf.
